Look Fantastic January Review
So we get to my final Look Fantastic box review (for now).
This is their first box since they’ve announced a slight rise in subscription prices and I can immediately see a difference.
The box is thicker, and a little more substantial feeling, with a slightly nicer design. The leaflet/magazine that comes with it is thicker and has more content to it. There’s also more full size products!
As for the actual products in there it was great to see some brands I’d never heard of, but I did feel a little ‘meh’ on opening the box.
Three full sizes in the shape of tweezer, mascara and highlighter was a great start. Repeats of the Don’t Despair, Repair and Pixi clear eyebrow mascara was less so great.
So at a cost of £8, this is nice to get in a box. The rose gold is very in right now and lots of people will love displaying these in with their make up. However for me, I’m not a fan either of the colour or the tweezers themselves. They feel quite thick and sturdy which for some may be a bonus but for me doesn’t feel comfortable to use. I like the ends of my tweezers to be quite thin so I can be quite precise with what I’m doing.
I think this may actually be a full size too?! Look Fantastic really went to great lengths to up their game this month. I tend to use a tinted brow mascara rather than a clear one, so this will have limited use to me. However, it’s a nice product and handy to have in my beauty stash. This is my second one now as I received one in my Marks and Spencer Beauty Advent Calendar last year.
Another full size here with this mascara worth £17.95. I’ve never heard of this brand before and looking on their website their products look pretty but isn’t something I’d normally take a chance on. However, after trying this mascara I have some confidence in this brand. It’s a really nice mascara. It doesn’t make my lashes all huge like it claims on their website, but it’s a lovely daytime mascara that doesn’t smudge throughout the day.
The brush is pretty huge. Bigger than I normally use and so I did poke myself in the eye a couple of times. I really like this mascara. The only complaint I have with this is the fact that while I use it, dry bits of mascara go all over my hands. Because it’s smudge proof it’s kind of hard to then wash my hands! It’s a minor thing, but it’s never happened with a mascara before.
It’s a nice mascara, but for £17.95 I’d struggle to justify the cost.
I must admit, I was kind of annoyed to receive this as I’d only just bought a brand new highlighter! Given how long it takes me to use up a highlighter this would have taken me a long time to get round to using so I did give it a try for a few days.
This is the second Cruelty Free product which is a nice touch. It’s also a very generous size, bigger than the full size which I find strange! At £16 it’s not a bad price given how long it’ll last. I was surprised at the colour of this, quite red/pink. It took quite a bit of work to blend into my skin and my finger did end up covered in my foundation once I’ve finished. Given I’m currently using a transfer resistant foundation I wasn’t too impressed.
The overall effect is pretty good. However, I’ve just switched to a powder highlighter and I’m loving the ease of use. I don’t think I’ll go back to liquid highlighter in a hurry.
I was shocked to get a repeat of this, so recently after getting it in another Look Fantastic box. On repeat use of this conditioner my opinion sadly hasn’t changed. I didn’t notice any difference to my hair after use.
Another Nuxe product from Look Fantastic this month. This a nice moisturiser although it’s so dark you feel like you’re applying a tinted moisturiser. I didn’t notice any difference to my skin once applied, so the colour wasn’t an issue. However, as I’ve had before with Nuxe creams, it has a tendency to sit on my skin, rather than sink in. Therefore if I don’t wear make up this will just rub or flake off throughout the day if I itch my face. A very odd effect to have a moisturiser.
Look Fantastic really tried to show people who may have been unhappy about the increase in price that they need not worry. I do believe there were four full sizes or at least very generous samples this month. I had the three monthly subscription which was £13.33 a month. The new price is £14.50 a month for a three monthly sub. To be honest, if there’s going to be that many good size products each month it’s still totally worth it.
I’m not regretting my decision to cancel (yet). I cancelled because I have way too many beauty products currently. Once I’ve reduced down my stash, I will probably resubscribe.
