I’m a little late to the party this month, I know, but I was quite excited to try all the products so wanted to do a good test before posting.
O.M.G. This stuff smells amazing! I applied it after the shower on my day off and I still smelt amazing the next day before my next shower. The softness lasted and so I didn’t have to use anything after the following day’s shower either. I love this stuff. While it’s quite a thin formula and you think you’re going to use a lot of it, I haven’t noticed that I’ve been going through the sample size all that quickly. I definitely will be buying it but after I’ve used all the oodles of moisturisers I already have (evidence that I really don’t moisturise enough).
I instantly fell in love with this product. It smells amazing, applies nicely, leaves a lovely tint on your skin meaning you can use it on its own or under foundation and a little goes a long way. It does minimise my pores but after going back to my 17 Photo Flawless primer as a comparison there’s actually not that much in it really. After that I wasn’t that convinced and for £24.50 I would have to be. Unfortunately, I just don’t think it’s worth the pricetag. If however you don’t like the usual silicone based pore minimising primers, or they don’t agree with your skin, then it’s probably worth the splurge. If not, stick with Maybelline’s Baby Skin.
Delarom Aquaconfort Mask
This, like the body souffle was also surprisingly thin formula-wise. It went nicely on the skin and soaked into it. My skin felt and looked nice for the rest of the day but I didn’t notice a different beyond that. I also prefer my face masks to be thicker, don’t ask me why (my favourites do tend to be of the mud variety) so I can’t really see myself purchasing this.
Philip Kingsley Elasticizer
This was my biggest disappointment. I really wanted to love this. I’d been debating buying this for a while but was put off by the directions: wet your hair, apply it is in sections, put a cap on your head and leave it for 10-20 minutes. For a start even with silly amounts of combing, as soon as my hair comes into contact with water it gets seriously knotty. Using this I must have lost quite a chunk of my hair. Secondly, I felt like I was using absolutely loads just to get it all through my hair – meaning I’ve nearly used the sample already. Thirdly, I didn’t have any caps in the house and they don’t supply you with one so I’m not sure how much of the efficacy I’ve lost. Finally, wetting your hair and then sitting around for twenty minutes is such a faff and I really couldn’t get on board with it. Like the mask, my hair felt nice and had a bit more oomph after use but it was shortlived. I know I can get better results from other hair masks that just aren’t as expensive, or take as much effort so sadly this won’t be a purchase.
Premae Anatomy Nutrients Instant Renewal Body Oil
I must admit I was a bit miffed to get two body products in this month’s box (as I’ve already admitted, being nice to the skin on my body isn’t something I’m good at) and this oil was… okay? I guess? It smelt nice, left my skin smooth, and didn’t make me feel too oily. As for it being good for cellulite? Frankly there isn’t enough in the sample to allow you to use it long enough to even slightly gauge any opinions on that front (I used around 1/3 of the bottle in one use).
Birchbox Eye Mask
This is the only thing I haven’t used yet, although it’s dutifully waiting in my fridge should the need for it arise. It seems nice and compact – the Body Shop mask I have already is huge and just makes my whole face feel cold instead of just cooling my eyes – so hopefully this should do the job nicely when needed.
Overall I felt slightly disappointed this month. Not with the products as some of them I really enjoyed getting to try out. It’s more the amount of products really. When you consider that the Benefit sample is supposed to be something extra in the box (that’s how it was advertised anyway), it doesn’t really leave all that left. It also didn’t come in one of those cute cotton bags like previous months, which I missed! It’s still worth the money, don’t get me wrong, but I’m definitely looking forward to something a little more substantial next month.
What did you think of this month’s Birchbox?
