Giraffe Birthday Card

I’m back with another card again today!

I decided to do another animal card and dug through my stamps to see if I had one that would work (I need to do more with stamps. I have a sizeable collection and barely use them) and sure enough I found a cute giraffe.

I wanted a card similar but not the same as my lovely elephant cards so set about designing something in the Silhouette program.  I knew the giraffe would need to be stamped in a circle and to soften it slightly, mounted onto a scalloped circle. Then I had to think about how to finish it and where to put the sentiment. I didn’t want to do balloons again, and so decided a simple banner might look good. Here’s what I came up with…

giraffe sketchI was worried it might look a little bare with just that, but set to work putting it together without gluing, to see if I was happy.

As I was going for a cute card, my new My Mind’s Eye Just Splendid papers finally got used! I knew the pastel colours would be perfect with the giraffe. I picked out a multicoloured dotty paper for the background, and a plainish pink paper of the same shade pink from the background paper. I had a play with the stamp and my promarkers and settled on the perfect colour combo: sandstone for the tail, feet and nose (is it a nose on a giraffe?) and tulip yellow on the body.

IMG_2406I really liked how it! Cute and simple! I dug through my pile of cardstock letters and sentiments and found some Papermania Capsule Collection Lemon Sorbet letters that matched beautifully.

giraffeI love the different shades of yellow here! I contemplated finishing the card off with some enamel dots but I left it and came back to it the next day and still loved it just the way it was and so kept it that way. I love it when a card comes together so well like this. The one thing I’m not 100% on is if this is to be considered a children’s birthday card or if young adults would like it too?

What do you think?

P.S. If you like this card it’s available in my shop now!
