The Weekend Review: Estee Lauder Make up Brush Cleanser

I’m getting very good at washing my make up brushes regularly.

Alongside the obvious benefits to my skin, I think it’s actually preserving my make up brushes, with my Real Techniques Stippling Brush lasting a lot longer than expected.

This also means I get to try new make up brush cleansers. I know some people like to use baby shampoo as an alternative but after seeing someone use too much and have to spend ages washing out all the suds I’ve avoided using it.

This month I decided to try Estee Lauder’s brush cleanser, £12.50 for 235ml.

el mb cleanserInitially it sounds kind of pricey but actually it’s a pretty decent size bottle and I think I’m using a little less of this product than cheaper alternatives I’ve used in the past. I’ve used this product two different ways – spraying the cleanser on the brush and then swirling the brush in a pot of hot water and mixing the cleanser with hot water and cleaning the brush in that – and have seen little to no difference in the result. It cleans my brushes nicely though it does seem to leave a slightly greasier residue on the bristles, which can leave the bristles a little clumpy still, rather than light and feathery as they should be. This also pretty strongly smells of nail polish remover which isn’t great. Thankfully, this doesn’t transfer onto the brushes, it’s really only when opening the bottle that you can smell it but it is quite off putting and really makes you wonder what’s in there.

I’m not convinced on this initially, it doesn’t really give my brushes the ‘like new’ feeling that I’ve had from other cleansers in the past (primarily No7’s offering). It’s definitely going to last me a while so I’ve got plenty of time to change my mind. If I change my mind and love it, I’ll be sure to write a follow up!

  • I’ve had this a while and not used it too much. I found it a bit disappointing too sadly x

Yep, the more I use it, the more I think I’ll be going back to my old faithful – No7 brush cleanser. x
