Carpe Diem Planner Review & A Giveaway!
So when I heard that TK Maxx/Home Sense had got some Carpe Diem planners in stock I knew I had to check them out!
I’d seen people go a bit mad over these pretty planners made by Simple Stories when they came out a while ago. As a faithful Filofaxer I didn’t indulge but I was always curious as to the quality of these planners.
Simple Stories is a scrapbooking company that’s also branched out into planners too. Their planners first came out last year I believe? To begin with I think it was just A5 planners they did but I now see they’ve released personal sized and also have Travellers Notebooks coming in September. The Carpe Diem range of planners are in split leather and while they have a grain to them, don’t have the same texture or smell of a regular leather planner.
In my local Home Sense I had the choice of two colours – the Ivory and the Reset Girl Persimmon.
I obviously went for the Persimmon – the colour was just too beautiful.
As explained, the planner is split leather. You can see it has some graining to it and it’s got a little shine. It’s soft and bouncy to touch, as the cover is well padded. The hardware in this planner is gold, along with a gold glasses charm – The Reset Girl’s logo.
At this point I need to point out that I no longer support The Reset Girl. However, I much prefer the colour of this to the Ivory version.
Opening up the planner, you can see that gold hardware and a generous selection of pockets.
Along with three vertical pockets there’s a horizontal pocket underneath. It would have been good for the pockets to be a little wider, but they’re still a good size. You can see the touches of The Reset Girl all through the planner, including the embossed logo and journalling card in the bottom pocket.
The gold ‘You Got This’ is actually on a dashboard with the pattern girl on a paper dashboard underneath. There’s actually a further two paper dashboards underneath that one, so you can switch it up when the mood takes you.
At the back there’s a few more pockets, and more embossing.
Just hiding underneath the clasp, you can see a pen loop and while it is elasticated, I struggled to fit my Pentel Energel in the elastic.
You get a good heap of inserts and dividers with the pack, featuring some beautiful colours and illustrations. The divider tabs are also laminated, which is a nice touch.
In terms of monthly inserts, each set starts with a goal tracker page.
All the inserts that come with the planner are undated. I think I prefer this so you can start the planner whenever you want. If you’re like me and want to switch up your planners during the year, this is ideal.
The pages are nice and simple, with a light grid design.
Then, at the back of the monthly pages there’s a log page.
I like this page, though I think I’d prefer it at the start of the month with the goal tracker. There
The huge pile of weekly inserts starts with another dashboard style page.
The weekly inserts are also undated. They’re set out very similar to an Erin Condren, with three boxes and headers.
They’re narrower than Erin Condren pages, so your stickers won’t fit. However, they’re still good size boxes and I think I’d enjoy planning in them. The notes area to the right and along bottom are really handy for any weekly trackers or goals you want to do.
I really like this planner. The inserts are really beautiful. They’re also a fantastic quality – very thick. The binder is a lovely colour and I like the feel of it. The only thing I struggled to get used to was the padding in it. I’m used to Filofax Originals that are just a piece of leather, these Carpe Diem planners have a lot more padding in them than even a Kikki K planner. The pockets are very generous and the hardware feels good quality. The only thing I’d remove is the little charm I don’t really do charms on my planners as I think they get in the way.
Okay so now you’ve read all about this lovely planner it’s now time for me to tell you about my giveaway! A few weeks ago I bypassed an amazing milestone in my shop – 5000 sales! I wanted to do a giveaway as a thank you to everyone that has supported the shop. However with PBC I got very distracted as you can imagine. Now we get to June and today is my birthday! So now seems like the perfect day to launch a giveaway AND a coupon code for my Etsy store!
