A simple birthday card for mum

While looking for card ideas is nice, sometimes I struggle to find anything to inspire me

This is when I really go out of my comfort zone when it comes to cardmaking and whip something together. I’m not great at being able to do it (and it turn out good!) but I do like to at least try. I also know that the more I try, the more I’ll get better at just throwing a card together. When I needed to make my mum a birthday card back in December nothing I was finding online was really inspiring me so I just pulled out some papers and started making!

How it’s made

My go to for anything mum related are lovely vintage colours and papers. There’s an old discontinued Papermania range called Vintage Notes that is ideal for mum cards and that’s what I used for the strips here. As they’re a thick textured paper, I just ripped them at the sides and like the effect it had.

The butterfly die cut is one I came across in my scraps stash. It’s cut out of a lovely textured cream paper. I used my trusty StazOn ink and some Papermania stamps to create the random stamping on the butterfly. The button is also from the Vintage Notes range (I bought a lot of that range when it came out!) I’m pleasantly surprised with how the twine bow came out as I normally can’t tie neat bows ever.

So that the doily didn’t get lost on the white background I just inked up the edges with some Tim Holtz ink and I love the effect it had. It’s really in keeping with the vintage feel of the papers. I was limited for space in terms of a sentiment and so I picked out this ‘especially for you’ one mainly because of how nicely it fit. Unfortunately I don’t know where it’s from as it came as part of a freebie stamp set with a magazine.

In my huge stash of enamel dots I managed to find some peach ones that match the button quite nicely. I can’t remember the last time I made a card that didn’t have enamel dots on… Maybe that needs to be my next cardmaking challenge.

I like how this turned out. My mum also liked which is the main thing. Maybe I’ll make cards this way more often.
